The 4th Green Living Expo will take place on Saturday, May 8 at Riversprings Middle School from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be something for everyone at this free event.
Last year the Expo drew a crowd of 800 people from Wakulla and surrounding counties and the evaluations were very positive. This year we have put together an outstanding lineup of workshops and expert presenters as well as exhibits on how to live more sustainably.
The workshops will include What Does it Mean to Be Green?; Organic Gardening; Green Jobs - What and Where are They; Landscaping with Native Plants; Build your Own Rain Barrel; Be the Solution to Pointless Pollution; Solar Energy for the Home; Solar Hot Water Heating; How to Recycle Everything; Hydroponic Gardening; The Impact of Our Consumption. Two workshops – one on making a rain barrel and another on repurposing an article through a Stitching Circle – require a fee and preregistration.
Other offerings include a computer lab to calculate your carbon footprint and a film festival showcasing documentaries on important issues facing our planet. There will be exciting programs specifically designed for elementary and middle school students, who are the trustees of our planet for future generations.
You will have an opportunity to visit exhibits of businesses that have incorporated energy efficient practices or provide energy efficient products and services. Several utility companies will be there to assist you with idea on reducing your energy costs. We will once again hold a raffle for several beautifully decorated rain barrels and you can purchase a small native tree for a minimal charge.
This year the Expo has expanded to include a large local growers market offering fresh produce as well as local vendors who will sell delicious food and drink items throughout the day. There will be a picnic area for networking with fellow attendees as well as entertainment and children’s activities.
Bring your family, friends, and lawn chairs and come to learn and have fun. For more information and continual updates, visit us at: www.greenlivingenergyexpo.com.
